The Society for the Emancipation of Men 1970

Semen is a latin word for seed. The term although somewhat scandalous at first blush is also somewhat appropriate since the College of B.A. is hopefully [a] seedbed which will constantly provide our young economy with new and vigorous strains of entrepreneurs and executives.

Just as our college is one of the seedbeds of the country's business world, we, the male students of B.A. are hopefully its seeds. That is why we have called this new organization SEMEN.

Now, you may ask yourself, what is the nature of this organization? Let us put it this way. Practically, all male organizations in this university are in the form of one fraternity or another. Now, we want to eliminate this concept of fraternity as the only way men can organize. SEMEN is not an exclusive fraternity. It is open to all B.A. male students who wish to join. This is the first point.

The second point is this. There is a need for businessmen with the same business background and ideals to be united so as to make this voice felt in the formulation of national unity … while we are students with all the time to associate and socialize.

The success or failure of an organization depends upon its members. No organization is automatically good or bad. If the members are active, the organization is a success!

*The name of the organization was later changed to "Society of Emancipated Men" (Semen), pronounced as Se-men. It is now open to all men students in the University.
